SRINAGAR: PDP Chairman Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday called for popular support for the struggle for the restoration of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and its special status under the Constitution.

Speaking at a one-day party workers’ convention in Budgam District, Mehbooba said she would not budge or hesitate to speak for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“I have decided for myself and made the conscious decision to speak out for my people, to fight for their dignity and rights and to advocate peace and reconciliation as a means of achieving lasting peace not only in JK, but across the subcontinent, ”she said. .

“I know the road is full of challenges and would test me every minute. But, as a citizen of JK and leader of the PDP, this is expected of me and I assure you that the party would not compromise. on the agenda of (party founder) Mufti (Mohammad Sayeed) Sahab and will not leave our people behind, no matter what the pressures, ”she said.

Warning the people that the struggle will be long and arduous, Mehbooba said the road is full of challenges and not for the faint of heart.

She asked for the support of the people of JK, saying she couldn’t do it all on her own.

“I need your continued support to recover what has been wrongfully taken from us … I urge the people of Jammu and Kashmir to stand up, decide and choose sides in a meaningful struggle for recovery. honor and dignity of Jammu and Kashmir, ”she said, referring to the revocation of the special status of the former state under article 370 of the Constitution and its bifurcation by the Center in August 2019.

“The central government has used all means and all resources to demolish me and my party, but here we are standing with our heads held high because we have nothing to hide or regret,” she said. added.

Fighting for cordial and peaceful relations between India and Pakistan, the former chief minister said it was high time for the leaders of the two countries to sit around the table and resolve all outstanding issues for lasting peace.
